Local Artist and author Miller Pope was born in South Carolina but spent most of his career during the “golden age of illustration” in the New York advertising and publishing arenas, after getting his start on the Marine Corps’ legendary Leatherneck magazine.

Miller studied figure drawing at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., at the Art Students League in New York City.

His works have appeared on novel covers and in major magazines. He was elected to the Society of Illustrators in 1957.

Miller (founder of The Winds Resort Beach Club) was recently the subject of a feature article in the January issue of Our State Magazine.

Residents and businesses are busy now decorating their golf carts and other vehicles for the annual Christmas Parade Saturday at 2:00 p.m..

Later that same day, at 5:00 p.m., is the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Causeway, on the mainland side of the bridge, across the street from the Fire Department. Bring Christmas spirit and your best singing voice because this is where we get together for some caroling. Then everyone goes across the street (around 5:30 p.m.) to the Fire Station for hot cocoa, coffee and other goodies and that’s when Santa arrives! At this time canned and non perishable goods will be collected to help needy families in Brunswick County. Cash donations will also be accepted.

But, as always, the best is saved for last as everyone heads over to Sharky’s Waterfront Restaurant to watch the 8th Annual Christmas Boat Flotilla and Party to benefit Hope Harbour Domestic Violence Shelter.
Sharky’s will be serving hot dogs and pizza by the slice and hot clam chowder and local band “BAILOUT” kicks off an evening of music, dancing and FUN after the awards.

We were bigger then Myrtle Beach and Wilmington last year and it just looks like it is getting bigger and better every year.

The Flotilla starts around 5 pm at Inlet View, travels down the intracoastal waterway and ends up at Sharky’s Waterfront Resaurant around 6:30 – 7 for the judging.

That’s when the party starts!! This is fun for the whole family!

Sharky’s will clear out the main dining room to make room and Bailout will begin rocking around 8 pm until? for your dancing and partying entertainment!!. Sharky’s will be serving full menu till 8 pm and will have apps and pizza after that. Bartenders Rick and Adam are working on Holiday drink specials that will be sure to be a hit.

There will be a lot of activities going on and in the true spirit of giving back to the community all proceeds from the T-shirt sales and raffles will benefit Brunswick Family Assistance.

Check back for more updates on the raffles but as of right now a little shark is telling me there will be some V.I.P. Jimmy Buffett tickets and also some other misc. Margaritaville items!! If you were here last year you know the kind of things they raffle for charity.
