NC Jazz Festival, 32nd Annual – Thursday, 02/2/2012 – Saturday, 02/04/2012
This is one of the largest traditional jazz festivals in the Southeast. We will open Thursday night with a special event concert, Styles of Jazz. Friday and Saturday nights we will return to our 7 sets of traditional jazz with a different leader for each set. Our 15 all-star musicians are all world renowned and include guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, Wycliffe Gordon on trombone, vocalist Lynn Roberts, jazz violin prodigy Jonathan Russell. Lucky Leprechaun 5K Run

April 6, 2012 – Battleship Easter Egg Hunt & Spring Carnival
10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Hippity Hoppity down the Battleship trail for a fun Spring event with continuous games and egg hunts along with a bounce house and petting zoo for guests to enjoy. Egg hunts will run throughout the event so that kids are guaranteed a chance to find eggs and will be able to “hunt” as many times as they like. There will be excitement everywhere you turn so come to have fun and enjoy the festivities. Tickets are $5 a person and children under 2 are free.

The Easter Bunny has been busy hiding his Easter Eggs all over the Fun Court at The Winds Resort Beach Club and he’ll be there to officiate the hunt! At 12:00 p.m. kids ages 2 – 10 can come and join the hunt. Bring your Easter baskets for fun, games and prizes.

This is great fun for the kids and parents and grandparents will love watching the excitement as the kids discover and add eggs to their baskets, play games and win prizes!

April 11-15, 2012

The 65th Annual North Carolina Azalea Festival in nearby Wilmington, NC (just 40 minutes from The Winds). The Festival is a celebration of Wilmington’s exceptional artwork, gardens, rich history and culture during its five days of entertainment that includes: a parade, street fair, circus, concerts, pageantry, and all that is Southern.

This year’s concert headliners have not yet been announced. This will be held at Trask Coliseum, on the campus of UNCW from 8:00 PM to 10:30 PM

Days at the Docks – April 28 & 29, 2012

Started in the 1980′s, the Springtime festival called “Day at the Docks” was recently expanded to 2 days becoming “Days” at the Docks.

Over 50 arts and crafts vendors and a dozen food vendors set up for two days of fun.The weekend starts off with a 5K and 10K run at 8:00 am Saturday morning.

3rd Annual Cape Fear Sailfish Classic August 11-14, 2012 This tournament is built for fun, experience the thrill of circle hook rigging, trolling in the nearshore waters for the elusive and beautiful sailfish. The format consist of a Captains meeting and pig picking for Thursday night, circle hook rigging demonstration by experienced captains and their mates. Fishing takes place in boundaries ranging from WR-4 to the Jungle, so boats participating from area home ports include Bald Head, Wrightsville, Holden Beach, and of course, Ocean Isle Beach. Fish Friday and Saturday, wrap up with cookout and prizes on Sunday. Charter boats welcome. October 20-21, 2012 - The 32nd North Carolina Oyster Festival

2012 will mark the 31st anniversary of the festival, which will be hosted by the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce.

Awarded North Carolina Event of the Year 2007 by the North Carolina Association of Festivals and Events, the 29th Annual North Carolina Oyster Festival will feature: Live entertainment, a road race, a surf contest, kids area, over 120 arts & crafts vendors and 13 food vendors, North Carolina Oyster Shucking Championships and an Oyster Stew Cook-off.

If you’re not a fan of the oyster don’t let that stop you. There are all kinds of food vendors with everything from Greek gyros to cheesesteaks to homemade ice cream (not to mention funnel cakes, cotton candy and burgers and hot dogs).

The Winds tends to book up way ahead for this nationally recognized festival so make plans and reservations as soon as possible!

Oct 27th & 28th, 2012 – NC Festival by the Sea

This 2 day events is kicked off with a parade down the Holden Beach causeway. This is the only day of the year that you can walk across the Holden Beach bridge and each year several hundred take that high altitude stroll to stake out the perfect spot to view the parade. Arts and Crafts vendors are open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sat. and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sun. You’ll want to plan to be onsite for at least a couple of meals and a snack or two, just to sample a tiny portion of the food on hand. For the competitive sort, there is a horseshoe tournament and a sandcastle building contest. Children enjoy face painting, huge kites flying overhead and the children’s rides and amusements.
